We're excited to welcome writer Andrew Villone for a signing of his comic series DAZZLE, in-store on Sunday, January 21st, from noon to 2pm. The first three issues of the comic (or four, if you count issue 0!) will be available for purchase at the event. Each issue features work by a unique roster of artists. Also available will be Are You Ready To Be Heartbroken? which features short stories that take place within the Dazzle world but are separate from the main story. This comic was done as a creative experiment with a very talented young teenager from Kyrgyzstan, Mariia Otunchieva, who completed the whole issue without digital tools. ABOUT DAZZLE:
Under the big top of a globe-trotting circus fueled by magic and filled with outcasts, dreamers, assassins, charlatans, monsters and angels, a young orphan girl must find both her dysfunctional family and her true self. ABOUT CREATOR: Andrew Villone, a native Californian who lived most of his adult life in Seattle, has spent the past two decades living, traveling, and guiding others throughout Europe and the Near East. With a keen sense of adventure and a desire to connect with the unfamiliar, he has witnessed a world most have only dreamt of. These lived experiences and connections made have built the foundation for a world of his own, expertly illustrated and told through the vibrant characters of Dazzle. None of the other artists involved in Dazzle are American. They hail from all over the globe: Turkey, Mexico, Croatia, UK, Hong Kong and Central Asia. Dazzle is Andrew’s first and only endeavor in the comic book world. He currently resides along the coast of the Adriatic Sea. We don't know if it'll snow, but we want to be prepared!
SNOW DAY HOURS: 11AM - 6PM. If there's snow or ice on the ground, these are our hours! We may further reduce hours or be closed if conditions are severe enough that even our walking-distance staff aren't able to make it in safely. Keep an eye on our social media for the latest, particularly Instagram Stories and Facebook! CLASSES: May be canceled if travel becomes dangerous and will be rescheduled based on instructor availability. We aim to communicate class cancellations at least 24 hours ahead of time, but may not always be able to depending on how quickly conditions change. Once a class has been rescheduled, we'll let you know ASAP! Online classes may also be affected if power outages affect an instructor. (This has happened in the past, so fingers crossed!) 🤞 ONLINE: As always, you can browse and shop our entire store online, as well as check out upcoming classes. Limited hours and store closures are rough, and we appreciate your support! 💖 Thanks so much to everyone who applied for our Spring Equinox Market! We're excited to announce our lineup for the weekend and can't wait to see everyone there!
In addition to a packed weekend full of amazing artists, Lisa Jordan (@kyr.creates) will be leading Watercolor on the Rocks Sunday evening after the market! You definitely don't want to miss out!
We're thrilled to have Marie Okuma Johnston as our Artist Resident this year!
Marie will be working in our studio for the next few months on pieces for a June show called Gendai Hyakki Yagyo ("Modern Day Parade of Demons") which will showcase current events told through old Japanese folktales. Look forward to it! Thank you again to everyone who applied as well. It was great looking at everyone's work, and there will definitely be more opportunities for you all in the future! 💖 We've put our new risograph machine through the paces, learned its ins and outs, and are now ready to offer printing services to others!
Like a strange hybrid between screenprinting and xerox duplicating, risograph is a unique way to make your book, zine, or print really stand out!
We're excited to introduce an Artist Residency Program with the goal of supporting and helping emerging artists establish a strong career foundation by creating, exhibiting, and publishing a cohesive body of work.
Over the course of three months, a selected artist will be provided:
At the end of the residency period, the artist will have a solo exhibition at Push/Pull and the opportunity to publish a book collecting their new work. Can you believe it? Push/Pull is turning NINE! We couldn't have done it without you, so come celebrate with us Saturday, January 7th, 6-9pm.
We'll have product specials, mystery gifts, and will be unveiling our 2023 VIP Club shirt design by Ballard's own Specswizard. You'll be able to sign up for our VIP Club and get your shirt or tote that night! ♥ We can't wait to see you there! Maxx here with several big updates. At the end of August we closed our Shilshole location and moved to 2000 NW Market St, just a few blocks away. The Market St location was formerly home to Dakota Art. When they announced the closing of their Seattle store (their Mount Vernon and Bellingham are still open), we swooped in and made a deal not just to move into their location but also to take over the business of selling art supplies. We've been open at the new location since September 7th. Come by and visit us any day. We're open all of them now!
Sunday 10am - 6pm Monday - Wednesday 11am - 7pm Thursday - Saturday 11am - 9pm And YES, we will continue to sell art supplies. We have added to the selection of items and are excited to continue curating the best in professional grad artist materials we can find. "Thank you so much for the support. It's wild that a gallery that I literally dreamed up has grown to be such a big part of the arts community in Seattle. And that we now support not just local artists, but hundreds of artists from all over the world. That being said, 2020 has been a rough year. And I'm definitely missing our annual anniversary party where I get to celebrate with all of you. We've been lucky to negotiate our rent down to a point where we can exist, but there are other expenses we are struggling to cover. You can help keep us around in a variety of ways below.
Wear your masks, stay at home, and we'll hope for an 8 year celebration with all of you." -Maxx We are so excited to be celebrating our seven year anniversary, and we have YOU to thank! Want to help keep the magic alive? Check out the exciting options listed here. We're happy to announce the we are open for you to visit. Our adjusted hours are Thursday - Sunday 1pm - 6pm.
