Poetry Comics: Haiku Summer (with David Lasky)
Spend your summer making haiku comics with David Lasky in 12 thirty minute online sessions.
Just for summer, a light, breezy poetry comics class, focusing on haiku comics of 3 or 4 panels. Every Sunday, for 12 sessions, we'll meet online and look at a classic haiku poem, learn a comics-making technique, and they be given a prompt to help you write and draw a short haiku comic. Students will be able to share their work privately online to receive instructor and classmate feedback. By the end of summer, you will have at least 12 new comic strips, enough to make a haiku comics zine/chapbook. All skill levels welcome.
Technology required: Device with Zoom
Physical materials: Pencil and paper, eraser, plus inking or coloring materials of your choice
30 minutes, 1pm to 1:30 (Seattle time)
Class starts June 20th
Every Sunday, 6/20 through 9/19. There will be no classes on 7/04 and 9/05.
Adults and mature teenagers welcome.
David Lasky co-authored the graphic novel Carter Family: Don’t Forget This Song, which won comics’ Eisner Award in 2013. His work has appeared in numerous anthologies, including Kramers Ergot and Best American Comics. He is the colorist of the Newbery Honor Book El Deafo. For the past 15 years, David has been a graphic novel instructor at a wide variety of venues.
